For the first time since Pandemic, Malaysia open borders

Today is a special day for those who are missing Malaysia. The Malaysian government gave the green light for the opening of its borders starting April 1st.

Since midnight of the 1st of April, thousands of Malaysians and Singaporeans have started flowing from both sides, to reunite with their loved ones in both countries. 

Malaysia is one of the major tourist destinations in South East Asia, has been closed for tourism since the break out of the pandemic in 2020. Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has witnessed a massive decrease of passengers since the pandemic. Covid-19 pandemic has taken a heavy toll on Malaysian carriers, especially the flag carrier Malaysia Airlines.

AirAsia Group suffered mega losses due to the prolonged pandemic cautionary measures applied by the government to reduce the number of Covid-19 cases.

Hotel sector in the country was not any better, but since the government eased some of the domestic restrictions concerning interstate traveling, the sector has witness some significant recovery.
